TAIPEI (Taiwan News) – China’s Vice President Wang Qishan (王岐山) is expected to meet U.S. President Donald Trump at the World Economic Forum Annual Meeting later this month, reports suggest.
An unnamed source told the South China Morning Post that the meeting is expected to happen at the sidelines of the summit, which will take place at Davos, Switzerland, from Jan. 22 to Jan. 25.
Wang is expected to lead the Chinese delegation to the annual meeting, while Trump is scheduled to attend the event for the second consecutive year.
The White House has not made an official comment about the report, nor confirmed Trump’s summit schedule.
A fresh round of trade talks are scheduled to take place in Beijing on Jan. 7-8, the first meetings since China and the U.S. agreed to a 90-day trade war truce, which took effect on Jan. 1.
The U.S. delegation is led by deputy trade representative Jeffery Gerrish, and the formal agenda has not been disclosed publicly.
Both Chinese and American delegations, as well as Trump, appear to be somewhat optimistic about the Beijing talks, reported AP.
