TAIPEI (Taiwan News) – A tour group of 43 Russians were full of praise for Taiwan after one week of exploration, reported CNA.
The tour group was interviewed by Taiwanese media on Jan. 7, with sightseers commending Taiwan’s warm weather and people, as well as its history and cuisine.
The Taiwan government has sought to boost ties with Russia with the introduction of a 14 day visa waiver for Russian nationals on Sept. 6, 2018. The visa waiver is for both tourism and business alike, and the trial will run until July 31, 2019.
To promote Taiwan as a travel destination, the Tourism Bureau and the Grand Hotel arranged for four groups of tourism operators and reporters to visit Taiwan throughout 2018-2019. One of these tourist operators raved about Taiwan last December, describing it as attractive as an orchid with an elegant perfume.
CNA reports that the promotional push yielded swift results, with some Russians booking travel packages to Taiwan after hearing about the junket.
The current tour group arrived in Taiwan on Dec. 29, and will view the whole island through an 11 day itinerary.
Members of the tour group told reporters that they were happy with Taiwan’s weather and food. One said that Taiwan’s weather is warm, but the people are warmer.
Taiwan’s variety and quality of fruit was praised by many, especially sugar apples and dragon fruit, as these products are hard to find in Russia.
