TAIPEI (Taiwan News) -- The 2019 Yangmingshan Flower Festival is set to kick off on Friday (Feb. 15) and traffic controls will be in effect four 11 days during that period, therefore, visitors are advised to take public transportation.
The annual Yangminshan Flower Festival will kick off on Friday and will run until March 17. Cherry blossoms on Yangmingshan have been blooming since late January and can be seen throughout the park with Taiwan cherry (山櫻花) being the first wave of cherry trees to flower.
The next wave of cherries to bloom are Yae-Zakura (double-layer) cherry blossoms (八重櫻), which started budding at the beginning of Lunar New Year and will continue to flower until the end of February. In March, Showa cherry (昭和櫻) and Yoshino cherry (吉野櫻) will begin to bloom, before the festival climaxes with Rhododendron flowers.

Due to the expected tsunami of visitors, the Traffic Division of the Taipei City Police Department said that it will be imposing traffic controls on Feb. 16, 17, 24, and 28, and March 1, 2, 3, 9, 10, 16, and 17. Checkpoints will be set up on these days at the intersection of Yangde Boulevard and Zhicheng Road, as well as intersection of Yangde Boulevard and Zhishan Road Section 2, Lane 1 from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m.
During the period when traffic controls are in place, only private vehicles with permits to travel up the mountain will be allowed to pass, according to the division.

To avoid possible hassles and traffic jams, the public is encouraged to take public transportation to the event venue on Yangmingshan. Taipei's Public Works Department suggested six MRT stations where the public can take buses to reach Yangmingshan including:
Taipei station: 260.
Shilin and Jiantan stations: 260, 303, Red 5, Small 15, Leisure Bus 111, and Flower Festival Bus 127.
Beitou station: Small 9, Small 25, and Leisure Bus 129.
Shipai station: Small 8 and Leisure Bus 128.
Jiannan Road station: 681.
