TAIPEI (Taiwan News) - Greta Thunberg, the Swedish teenager who inspired a worldwide ‘school strike’ against climate change Friday, has been nominated for a Nobel Peace Prize.
Norway’s Nobel Prize Committee does not comment on nominations, which can be made by legislators.
Thunberg, 16, has been the inspiration behind a rising tide of national climate strikes, encouraging students to skip school one day a week in order to persuade governments to take stronger and faster action.
Friday March 15 marked an international school strike, with students in 1,000 cities and 100 countries worldwide expected to take part.
Three legislators from Norway’s Socialist Left Party nominated Thunberg for the prestigious international award, the Associated Press reported.
