TAIPEI (Taiwan News) – As May marks World Bee Day, World Turtle Day, and Endangered Species Day, Taipei City Animal Protection Office (APO) will host a variety of events to raise public awareness of the importance of animal protection and biodiversity.
The first week will spotlight firefly season with Taiwan Insect Museum holding an encounter event with the lighting bugs at Jiuzhuang Elementary School (舊庄國小) on May 4. A guided tour will allow participants to learn more about the habitat of the insect and the mystery behind firefly luminescence.
The second week of May will feature the annual WildViewTaiwan Film Festival dedicated to biodiversity, while celebrating Mother’s Day at Guandu Nature Park (關渡自然公園). Documentaries to be aired will focus on monkeys, lions, kingfishers, dinosaurs, and the origin of life – providing insights into some of the most amazing survival stories of various species.
The third week of the month will shed light on marine conservation and the threats posed to ocean life, while the last week will delve into the interwoven relationship between food, agriculture, and biodiversity. The event also serves as a precursor to the 2019 Taipei Eco Festival in July.
More information on the events can be found on the APO website and Facebook page.
