TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — A Taichung police officer was amazed to find the lost old lady he helped was the oldest person in the city.
The 116-year-old Liu Chang (劉張) got lost on Aug. 16 and wandered 4 km from home, according to UDN. That afternoon, Taichung City Police Department’s Liming Station received reports that an elderly woman needed help, at an intersection in the city’s Nantun District.
Officer Kao Tzu-ching (高慈青) headed toward the location, where he found Liu pushing a wheelchair and clearly in need of help. After making sure she was physically okay, Kao slowly assisted her by walking slowly to the police station.
At the station, Kao gave her water, let her rest, and then chatted with her as if she were his own grandmother. Liu told Kao that she was born in 1905, which the officer at first thought was a joke.
After checking with the police inquiry system, Kao was amazed to find Liu was indeed, as claimed, 116 years old. She looked like she was in her 80s, he said, adding that he wanted to ask about her skincare and longevity secrets.
Finally, Kao contacted the centenarian's family and asked them to pick Liu up and take her home.
