TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — The National Immigration Agency (NIA) on Wednesday (July 14) announced that it is providing another 30-day automatic visa extension for the duration of the Level 3 alert.

An NIA official told a Taiwan News reporter that a 13th 30-day extension has been provided to those who entered Taiwan by March 21 of 2020. With Level 3 restrictions in place until July 26, this automatic extension was made "in order to prevent international movement of [the] population leading to further outbreaks, as well as to reduce the burden of epidemic prevention on local neighborhoods."

In response to local media reports that the service would be temporarily halted, the official clarified that NIA offices across the country will remain open to serve visitors in all ARC-related matters despite the extension.

Foreign nationals who meet the requirements and wish to extend their expired visa again when the Level 3 alert ends will have 10 days to do so. As for foreign nationals no longer eligible to extend their ARC after the alert, they will have 10 days to leave the country before being considered to have overstayed.
