TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — New Taipei police on Tuesday (March 3) referred a man to the prosecutor’s office for driving his car out of a tow yard without paying the fine.
Luzhou Precinct said in a press release on Tuesday (March 15) that the man, surnamed Tsai (蔡), had mistakenly assumed he was eligible to park his car in a parking space for the disabled, as his mother has a disabled badge, CNA reported. As it was illegal for him to do so, he was ticketed by police and his car was towed.
Police said Tsai arrived at the tow yard at around 3 a.m. on Sunday. He then climbed over the fence, pulled up the parking barrier with brute force, got into his car, and drove away, per CNA.
After receiving a report from a security guard at the scene, police reviewed surveillance cameras and asked Tsai to come to the police station to account for what had happened.
Police said Tsai seemed remorseful, and after questioning they referred his case to the New Taipei District Prosecutor's Office on suspicion of obstructing an officer and committing larceny. Tsai will also be asked to pay for the damage he caused at the parking facility.
