TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — The Ministry of Education (MOE) on Friday (March 22) announced that it will recruit over 1,000 foreign English teachers and teaching assistants in 2024.
To advance the government's Bilingual 2030 Policy, the MOE on Friday said that it plans to continue to recruit foreign English teachers to collaborate with local elementary and middle school instructors in developing an English-speaking environment on campus, enhancing students' English competence, and improving the English teaching skills of local teachers.
The ministry plans to recruit 1,096 international English instructors and teaching assistants this year.
The MOE will provide those accepted into the Taiwan Foreign English Teacher Program (TFETP) with a monthly salary, economy-class airfare, health and labor insurance, housing reimbursement, and an end-of-year bonus based on an annual performance review. A subsidy for economy-class airfare will also be provided to one accompanying spouse or immediate family member.
Foreign English teaching assistants admitted will be provided with a transportation allowance and reimbursement for taking certificate classes, such as TESOL, TEFL, or CELTA, by the ministry. In addition, the MOE said it will establish a career development path for foreign senior English teachers who stay or progress to a counseling role where they guide local teachers or junior foreign English instructors.
The ministry said this program involves collaboration with central and local governments and universities to ensure consistency in teaching standards, cultivates the “English communicative competence” of youth, and bolster the country's competitiveness on the international stage. Non-Taiwan nationals whose official or common language is English and are interested in teaching can apply online at the TFETP website.
