TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — A driver and seven students were sent to the hospital after their bus hit a guardrail while traveling on Hsinchu County’s Beixing Road on Thursday morning (March 28).
The bus was transporting 40 students to National Chutung High School when the driver reportedly started feeling unwell and lost control of the bus. The front of the vehicle and windshield were damaged, per PTS.
The bus had just exited Provincial Highway 68 and came to a halting stop at Beixing Road Section 2, No. 220. Hsinchu County Fire Department dispatched personnel and rescue vehicles.
The 65-year-old driver, surnamed Chiu (邱), and seven students had blood on them and were rushed to Taipei Veterans General Hospital's Hsinchu branch and National Taiwan University Hospital's Hsinchu branch. All of the crash victims were conscious and suffered varying degrees of injury.
A preliminary investigation revealed the driver had a history of heart disease. Police will review surveillance cameras and interview students to identify the cause of the accident.
