TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — A huge inflatable red ball barely managed to squeeze through a historic arch in Taiwan as it made its debut in the city on Friday (March 29).
The RedBall Project, a street artwork by American artist Kurt Perschke, is bouncing its way through 10 locations in Tainan from March 29 to April 7. The first stop in its tour was the Official Reception Stone Arch of the God of Wind Temple in the city's West Central District, reported CNA.
The Perschke team arrived in the morning as visitors gathered to witness the world's longest-running street artwork. Some puzzled visitors questioned why there was a giant red ball under the arch.
The team began inflating the ball around 9 a.m. and completed the process 30 minutes later. Team members periodically checked on the status of the red ball lodged under the arch and occasionally wiped it clean.
In photos taken Friday, the ball appears to be too large to be fully inflated under the arch. In response to concerns raised online about potentially damaging the integrity of historic sites, Tainan City Government Cultural Affairs Bureau said that evaluations had been conducted by both central and local government authorities, confirming there would be no issues.
However, Perschke team members were reminded to exercise caution when inflating the ball under historic structures.
The ball will appear at the following locations and dates:
- March 29 at the Official Reception Stone Arch of the God of Wind Temple
- March 30 at Yongle Market
- March 31 at Nianci Pavilion in Tainan Park
- April 1 at the Future Pavilion of National Cheng Kung University
- April 2 at Anping Old Fort
- April 3 at Tainan Art Museum
- April 4 at The Spring
- April 5 at Historical Township Office Restaurant
