TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — A thunderstorm struck northern Taiwan on Sunday (March 31), with Taipei reporting three injuries and 38 cases of damage.
At 4:30 p.m. Sunday, the Central Weather Administration (CWA) issued a severe thunderstorm warning for Keelung, Taipei, New Taipei, and Taoyuan. Taipei experienced heavy rain and strong winds, CNA.
According to the Taipei City Disaster Prevention Info Website, there were 19 cases of fallen signboards/debris, 15 fallen trees, two cases of flooding, one collapsed scaffolding, and a fallen utility pole.
Taipei reported three injuries, including one person struck by a falling tree, one person cut by glass, and another person hit by a garbage bin. All of them have been discharged from the hospital with minor injuries.
In New Taipei, a netizen captured video of a downed power line on Tamsui's Xinmen Street. There was also footage showing people riding scooters in heavy rain and strong winds.
