TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Four customers are suspected of suffering from food poisoning at a Kura Sushi branch in Taipei.
The Taipei City Government Department of Health on Monday (April 1) said that on March 28, four customers spent NT$2,000 at the Kura Sushi eatery in Taipei's Zhongshan District, reported TVBS. However, they developed symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, rashes, and diarrhea.
When the health department conducted an inspection, there were no remaining samples of the food consumed by the diners. Samples were collected from three staff members, as well as from utensils such as knives and cutting boards, and were brought back to the health department's lab for testing.
Inspectors found four hygiene deficiencies, listed by Lin Kuan-chen (林冠蓁), per UDN.
- The trash can in the handwashing area lacked a foot-operated lid.
- The health examination reports for employees were not promptly provided.
- The edges of the rice cooker were dirty.
Exhaust vents behind the ice cream machine were dirty.
A notice of improvement within a specified period has been issued. There will be no advanced warning for the subsequent inspections.
Failure to complete the improvements may result in fines ranging from NT$60,000 to NT$200 million for violating Article 8 and Article 44 of the Act Governing Food Safety and Sanitation (食品安全衛生管理法).
