TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — A car carrying surfboards dropped its cargo, causing a five-vehicle accident on Monday (April 1).
At approximately 2:13 p.m. on Monday, a car carrying surfboards accidentally dropped its cargo onto the southbound lane of National Freeway 3 at the 56.5-kilometer mark in the Daxi section, per CNA. Five vehicles, including one bus, two small trucks, and two small vans, collided as they evaded the surfboards.
The bus's window was shattered, and one car was briefly trapped against the guardrail. One of the drivers in the accident was taken to Taoyuan Armed Forces General Hospital, but no injuries were reported.
Police said the exact cause of the accident and whether there was drunk driving involved are pending investigation. The driver of the car will be fined between NT$12,000 (US$374) to NT$18,000, according to the Road Traffic Management Penalty Regulations, Liberty Times reported.
The National Highway Police Bureau reminded drivers to properly store cargo. If an accident causes serious injury or death, the driver’s license could be revoked.
