TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Shortly after the 7.2 magnitude earthquake struck near Hualien on Taiwan’s east coast on Wednesday (April 2), media reports indicated that an F-16V aircraft was damaged at an Air Force base in Hualien.
They said F-16V Block 20 aircraft were parked in a hanger at Chiashan Air Force Base, with boarding ladders at the ready to ensure rapid response capability. Some boarding ladders toppled during the quake, and reportedly caused minor damage to an unspecified number of fighter jets, reported CNA.
However, Taiwan’s Ministry of National Defense (MND) responded Wednesday afternoon. It said that all repairs had been completed and that none of the damage would affect the combat readiness of any jets at the base.
In an interview with CNA, an MND representative said the shaking boarding ladders may have damaged some exterior lightbulbs on aircraft at the air base in Hualien.
