TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — The five-star hotel Chateau de Chine Hualien announced on Tuesday (April 9) that it will lay off 86 employees as it begins repair work after the earthquake.
LDC Hotels and Resorts (LDC), owner of the Chateau de Chine Hualien, said that the hotel ceased operations on Wednesday (April 3), per CNA. “In accordance with the Act for Worker Protection of Mass Redundancy, it is required to report to the local government’s labor bureau and submit a layoff plan," the statement read.
“For each employee who worked diligently until the last day, LDC will prioritize asking for their willingness to transfer to other units or positions within the company,” the company said.
LDC said it employed nearly 100 workers at the Chateau de Chine Hualien. For employees who are not being retained, the company will adhere to the provisions of the Labor Standards Act, supplemented by the benefits and policies of the group, to arrange for layoffs properly.
The Ministry of Labor (MOL) said the Chateau de Chine Hualien has been in contact with the Hualien County Government. The hotel plans to lay off 69 and 17 people in April and May respectively, a total of 86 employees.
The Chateau de Chine Hualien suffered major damage from the earthquake, which caused its walls to crack and tiles from the first floor’s veranda to fall off.
