TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — President-elect Lai Ching-te (賴清德) continues to fill out his new Cabinet with a third wave of appointments made by Premier-designate Cho Jung-tai (卓榮泰) on Tuesday (April 16).
At a 10 a.m. press conference, Cho announced the appointment of new Economics Minister J.W. Kuo (郭智輝), co-founder of Topco Scientific Co. (TSC) and Topco Group chair. Kuo is known for investing in several fields, including biotechnology, healthcare, green energy, and optoelectronics.
Kuo was once chosen as one of the “Top 100 CEOs in Taiwan” and is self-taught in Japanese. He also has corporate management and supply chain experience and has accumulated significant personal net worth, per the Liberty Times.
The second appointment was the new Minister of Digital Affairs, Huang Yen-nun (黃彥男), a research fellow with Academia Sinica's Research Center for Information Technology Innovation, who will replace outgoing Audrey Tang (唐鳳). Huang has expertise in cybersecurity, AI, and the Internet of Things (IoT) and previously worked at well-known international organizations, including AT&T Bell Labs in the U.S.
The National Development Council (NDC) now be headed by Paul Liu (劉清), a former IBM manager as well as the former chair of PricewaterhouseCoopers Business Consulting Services Taiwan. Liu will replace the outgoing Kung Ming-hsin (龔明鑫).
The new chair of the Financial Supervisory Commission (FSC) will be Peng Jin-lung (彭金隆), associate dean of National Chengchi University's College of Commerce, who will replace Huang Tien-Mu (黃天牧).
Another ministerial appointment is Wu Cheng-wen (吳誠文) who will head the National Science and Technology Council. Wu is the president of the Southern Taiwan University of Science and Technology and will replace outgoing Wu Tsung-tsong (吳政忠).
Finally, long-term civil servant, Chen Chin-te (陳金德), the former chair of state-run fuel supplier CPC, will become the new head of the Public Construction Commission, replacing Wu Tse-cheng (吳澤成).
