TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — President Tsai Ing-wen (蔡英文) praised the deepening friendship between Taiwan and Paraguay on Tuesday (April 16).
In a meeting with the visiting Paraguay parliamentary delegation, Tsai highlighted the fruitful cooperation between Taiwan and Paraguay in education, healthcare, agriculture, livestock farming, and women's empowerment, per the Presidential Office. In education, the two countries are promoting Taiwan-Paraguay Polytechnic University, which nurtures talents for advanced technology industries.
Tsai said Paraguay President Santiago Pena and the Paraguayan government have consistently spoken up for Taiwan in international forums. She thanked the South American ally for its support and said its actions are an important driving force for Taiwan's continued engagement with the world.
The president urged the delegation to continue supporting Taiwan and promoting exchanges between Taiwan and Paraguay.
Paraguay Senate President Silvio Adalberto Ovelar Benitez said Taiwan-Paraguay ties have grown increasingly close in recent years.
Ovelar emphasized that Paraguay's steadfast support for Taiwan remains unchanged. This loyalty is driven by genuine and profound ties between the two nations, Ovelar said.
The senate president is in Taiwan to promote parliamentary exchanges between the two countries and gain a better understanding of Taiwan's political, economic, and technological advancements.
