TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Nymphia Wind (妮妃雅) was crowned "Next Drag Superstar" on Friday (April 19) following the final episode of U.S. T.V. show “RuPaul’s Drag Race.”
In the crucial lip-sync battle, the 28-year-old Taiwanese-American edged out Sapphira as they danced to Kylie Minogue’s “Padam Padam.”
A qualified seamstress and model, Nymphia later told NBC News, “I just wanted to come here and show a rich, rich Asian culture in my drag.”
Nymphia performed a traditional sleeve dance in episode one of the hit talent show. She featured her own designs throughout filming and wore a red dress for the spectacular Lunar New Year show.
According to the Entertainment website bio Nymphia has a “massive fanbase of ‘Banana Believers’ — a term given to her fans thanks to her signature color yellow, and penchant for the absurd. Inspired by Asian culture, art, and tradition.” Fans were ecstatic with the win and were fulsome in their praise on Nymphia’s Facebook page.
Nymphia was born in Los Angeles as Leo Tsao, and grew up in mostly Taiwan and Hong Kong. The artist was famed on the Taipei “Red House” drag scene in Ximending before moving to New York in 2022 to pursue her dreams.
