TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — President Tsai Ing-wen (蔡英文) visited the Institute for National Defense and Security Research (INDSR) think tank for an inspection on Monday (April 22).
According to a press release by the Office of the President, Tsai commended the INDSR for analyzing changes in the geopolitical situation, recruiting research talent, and establishing foreign exchanges and cooperation. The president, accompanied by other officials like National Security Council Secretary-General Wellington Koo (顧立雄), arrived in the morning and received a briefing from INDSR CEO Chen Ming-chi (陳明祺) regarding the institute’s operations and objectives, per CNA.
In a speech, Tsai remarked that she still remembered when the INDSR was established six years ago and has been largely successful in achieving its goals. She also said that the INDSR not only produces reports on regional security and defense technology trends but also assists government departments in conducting wargaming exercises.
The president added that the INDSR has continued to gather strategic and military talents to establish a complete research team and train officers from the Ministry of National Defense.
Additionally, Tsai mentioned that the INDSR has expanded Taiwan’s international exchanges, such as the Taipei Security Dialogue that was held for three consecutive years. This not only allows the international community to better understand the situation in the Taiwan Strait and the Indo-Pacific region but also increases the attention paid to Taiwan, she said.
Tsai thanked INDSR Chair Huoh Shoou-yeh (霍守業) and colleagues for their efforts and dedication. Faced with complex national defense issues, she said she hoped the institute would continue to work with the government to safeguard national security.
