TAIPEI (Taiwan News) – Taiwan and South Korea hope a total of 3 million tourists will travel between the two countries in 2024, almost double the number who did so last year, officials told a conference Thursday (April 25).
Last year the number of tourists traveling between the two countries reached more than 1.69 million, or 70% of the level before the COVID-19 pandemic disrupted international travel in 2020. Plans to improve that figure formed the focus of a meeting between the Taiwan Visitors Association (TVA) and the Korea Association of Travel Agents (KATA).
The event in Chiayi County analyzed post-pandemic tourism trends and presented proposals to promote exchanges between Taiwan and South Korea, per CNA. The South Korean side sent 79 people from 43 travel agencies and three airlines, while 130 representatives of Taiwan's tour operators, airlines, and hotels attended.
The conference concentrated on analyzing the spending and travel habits of the “MZ Generation,” the term used in South Korea for people born between 1981 and 2010, the Tourism Administration said. Destinations and travel businesses needed to learn how to address the special characteristics and demands of such travelers.
