TAIPEI (Taiwan News) – Taiwan’s first-ever minister of digital affairs, Audrey Tang (唐鳳), said Wednesday (May 8) she would travel overseas to introduce Taiwan to the world after she leaves office later this month.
Tang is scheduled to leave government on May 20, the inauguration date for President-elect Lai Ching-te (賴清德). She first joined the Cabinet as a minister without portfolio in 2016, and was appointed head of the Ministry of Digital Affairs (MODA) when it was formed in 2022.
Tang told a news conference Wednesday she was planning to visit all corners of the world to let locals understand Taiwan, the Liberty Times reported. She said she had been invited to speak overseas about her experiences in Taiwan.
As frequent foreign travel had not always been possible during her term as minister, many meetings were conducted by video conferencing. However, she now had an agent who would help her book international trips and arrange a schedule for her speeches, the report said.
Most overseas interest focused on Taiwan’s Jan. 13 elections, and on how the country had succeeded in countering disinformation attempts before and after the vote, Tang said.
She will be succeeded at MODA by Huang Yen-nun (黃彥男), an expert in cybersecurity, AI, and the Internet of Things from the Academia Sinica.
