TAIPEI (Taiwan News) – Thailand investigators found 14.8 kilograms of heroin hidden inside slushy machines set for export to Taiwan, reports said Wednesday (May 15).
Investigators suspected the case was the work of the same group that tried to smuggle 320 kg of ketamine to Taiwan inside Transformers models last month. A Thai woman who had planned to ship drugs to Australia was also believed to have been involved.
The Taiwan Ministry of Justice Investigation Bureau (MJIB) and Thailand’s Office of the Narcotics Control Board (ONCB) found the heroin stashed inside the slushy machines at a warehouse near Bangkok Tuesday (May 14), per CNA. The drugs had been imported from Laos, but the suspects arrested so far are all Thai, according to the ONCB.
The heroin would have an estimated street value of NT$88 million (US$2.73 million) in Taiwan. The ONCB said it would continue to track down the network behind the smuggling, while the MJIB is investigating the Taiwan end of the drugs route.
Heroin found inside coffee machines in Kaohsiung City last year could also be ascribed to the same gang, the report said.
