TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — The American fast-food chain Popeyes will open its first eatery in Taiwan later this month.
In a Facebook posting uploaded on Tuesday (May 14), Popeyes said that it would open its first restaurant in Taiwan on May 30. It will be on Xuchang Street in Taipei's Zhongzheng District, while a business office is in Neihu District.
During the first three days of the eatery's opening, from May 30 to June 1, Popeyes will have giveaways. The first 50 customers will get one free piece of fried chicken, and the first 20 consumers will receive a mobile phone lanyard set specially made for Popeyes.

In addition, as long as consumers join the Popeyes Line official account and purchase individual or multi-person set meals in the first three days, they will also receive a free side dish, with a daily limit of 500 servings of side dishes. The Day 1 free side will be a biscuit, Day 2 will be Cajun fries, and Day 3 will be Taiwan green tea.
Those who join the Line account can also enjoy coupons for “fried brownies,” enabling diners to enjoy the “most authentic soul food without traveling to the U.S.”
Since its founding in New Orleans in 1972, Popeyes has opened over 4,300 restaurants in nearly 40 countries, including Canada, China, South Korea, Singapore, France, and Germany. Its global annual revenue exceeds US$5 billion (NT$160 billion).

In 2023, Popeyes surpassed KFC as the No. 2 fried chicken chain in the U.S., trailing only Chick-fil-A, according to CNBC. Popeyes has consistently maintained steady sales growth in the global market, especially in Asian markets.
In a posting on 104 Job Bank that appeared in March, Popeyes said in addition to serving original and spicy fried chicken, Cajun fries, homestyle macaroni and cheese, and desserts, it will offer its popular fried chicken sandwich that was originally launched in 2019.
Elle reports that Popeyes plans on having five branches in Taiwan by the end of the year.
