TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — French string quartet Quatuor Van Kuijk will play in Taiwan on Sunday (May 19) at Cheng Kung Hall, National Cheng Kung University, and on Tuesday (May 21) at the National Concert Hall.
The program includes well-known string quartet classics by Debussy, Faure, and Ravel, per CNA. The members of the quartet are violinist Nicolas Van Kuijk, violinist Sylvain Favre-Bulle, violist Emmanuel François, and cellist Anthony Kondo.
Formed in 2012, Quatuor Van Kuijk quickly became one of France’s most notable string quartets under the mentorship of Ysaye and Talich Quartets, reported CNA. The members of the quartet are graduates of the Paris and Lyon Conservatories.
In an interview with CNA, Van Kuijk said they had visited Taiwan twice. “I remember Taiwan as a country full of warmth, and Taipei is a city that is both traditional and modern, with delicious xiaolongbao,” he said.
“For us, being in a string quartet is a life experience. We spend more time together than with our families,” Van Kuijk said. “I think we’re a small family, and we are very fortunate that we get along well.”
