TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — A red oolong tea from Yun Fun Tea (允芳茶園) was selected for the 520 state banquet to celebrate the inauguration of President-elect Lai Ching-te (賴清德).
Taitung County Government said via a press release the red oolong is a newly created specialty tea from Luye Township. It said the inclusion of the tea in a high-profile state banquet would allow people to learn about Taitung’s tea plantations and tea culture.
The announcement of the menu for the 520 inaugural state banquet featured ingredients from counties and cities in Taiwan. Taitung County expressed pride that the tea offering at the banquet will be Yun Fun Tea's finest product, red oolong.
Yun Fun Tea has been producing tea in Luye Township for more than 50 years. Yun Fun produces tea with organic fertilizers and uses human labor to weed tea plantations, allowing the soil to remain suitable for tea cultivation.
In addition to pursuing optimal growing conditions, Yun Fun Tea also undertakes precise tea production for drying, withering, kneading, and roasting tea. The time and commitment to this process complement the finished tea.
Yun Fun Tea has won numerous international awards, such as a gold prize at the World Green Tea Contest in 2022. It has distribution to markets in Japan and Europe.
Taitung County Government described the color of red oolong tea as amber-orange, with a thick flavor and well-rounded taste with the aroma of ripe fruit. The tea is suitable for cold and hot brewing.
Since 2022, the government has been promoting Taitung red oolong through promotional activities and brewing demonstrations. It is one of the unique products of Taitung that has proven popular in domestic and foreign markets.
Furthermore, domestic tea cultivation can be integrated with tourism, allowing visitors to experience a slower pace of life. As Taiwan celebrates the inauguration of a new president, it will show foreign dignitaries and guests the delicious flavors and tastes of Taiwan.
