TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Taiwan TV host Mickey Huang (黃子佼) was indicted for possessing child pornography after initially escaping prosecution in April.
In 2023, individuals came forward with allegations of sexual assault and misconduct against Huang, per CNA. One woman accused Huang of forcibly kissing and coercing her into taking nude photos at age 17. Another victim accused Huang of sexual assault, forcible indecent assault, and being forced to film explicit videos in 2013.
When investigators searched Huang’s property for evidence involving the first allegation, they found child pornography on his computer's hard drive. Seven sexually explicit files of minors were in his possession, which Huang had purchased from a sex crime forum, where he was one of 80 VIP members who paid hundreds of U.S. dollars for access to illegal content.
However, Huang was ultimately not charged and granted a deferred prosecution on April 3, enabling the offender to avoid a criminal record by maintaining “good behavior” for two years. He was ordered to pay a fine and write an apology letter.
Since the April verdict, public outcry has mounted over the court's perceived leniency, and legislators and advocacy groups have called for harsher penalties against child and sexual abuse.
On April 10, prosecutors applied to the Taiwan High Prosecutors Office to reconsider the case. On April 19, the Taipei District Prosecutors’ Office was ordered to continue the investigation after the High Prosecutors Office found deficiencies in the initial probe.
On May 17, the Taipei District Prosecutors’ Office announced it would prosecute Huang for breaking the Child and Youth Sexual Exploitation Prevention Act (兒童及少年性剝削防制條例).
In their latest investigation, prosecutors found Huang had been a member of the illegal online sex forum “Creative Private Room” (創意私房) since 2014, where he purchased and viewed sexually explicit videos and images of children.
The prosecution pointed out that any pornographic content containing children involved a child who had been sexually abused. They stressed that every time it is watched and disseminated, it is causing harm.
