TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — The Central Weather Administration (CWA) issued a heavy rain alert for 14 counties and cities on Friday (May 31).
The CWA said on its Facebook page that convective cloud systems are rapidly developing, leading to the possibility of short-duration heavy rainfall. On Friday, the CWA said there is a chance of localized heavy rain in Taoyuan and areas north and Yilan, and the mountainous regions of Hsinchu and areas south.
It advised the public to beware of lightning and strong wind gusts and be careful in mountainous areas in case of landslides, falling rocks, and sudden river surges.
At 2 p.m., the CWA issued a yellow heavy rain advisory that is in effect through Friday evening for Keelung, Taipei, New Taipei, Taoyuan, Hsinchu, Miaoli, Taichung, Nantou, Yunlin County, Chiayi County, Tainan, Kaohsiung, Pingtung County, and Yilan County. Yellow alerts are issued when rainfall exceeds 80 mm over 24 hours or surpasses 40 mm in one hour.
