TAIPEI (Taiwan News) – A delegation from Dubai in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) visited Kaohsiung City Government to discuss cooperation in the fields of smart cities, a sustainable environment, and finance, reports said Friday (May 31).
Officials from the Dubai Integrated Economic Zones Authority (DIEZ) also invited the Taiwan port to attend a meeting of the World Free Zone Organization in September, per CNA. An estimated 3,000 delegates are expected to attend the annual conference.
Deputy Mayor Lo Ta-sheng (羅達生) said there is ample space for cooperation with Dubai as both sides hold similar views on the reduction of carbon emissions. He met with DIEZ Executive Chair Mohammed Al Zarooni and senior adviser Nasser Al Madani on Thursday (May 30).
Dubai has launched a process of economic transformation into a smart city.
Kaohsiung, meanwhile, has shown rapid progress in terms of 5G, the Artificial Intelligence of Things (AIoT), and semiconductors, showing the potential for closer cooperation with Dubai, according to Lo.
