TAIPEI (Taiwan News) – The National Immigration Agency (NIA) is speeding up the installation of new e-Gates at Taoyuan International Airport to facilitate the quicker flow of travelers, reports said Tuesday (June 4).
A first phase including 19 new e-Gates had been completed, with the second phase starting Monday (June 3), per CNA. An additional 24 e-Gates will be completed by August 1.
Since the first electronic gates appeared at Taiwan’s airports and harbors in 2011, more than 100 million travelers passed through, according to the NIA. The project to replace the older e-Gates began last year.
The new gates of the fourth generation include more features and languages. At Taoyuan, the replacement of older gates will be completed this year, while other airports and harbors will follow in 2025.
Even before the new e-Gates, Taoyuan was named the fifth best airport in the world for its passport control system by Skytrax, the NIA said. The new system marked a major improvement in convenience for travelers while maintaining high security.
