TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — ABV Caribbean Restaurant started a two-month-long event promoting Honduran cuisine on Wednesday (June 5).
The restaurant sent a team to the Central American country last year to conduct research on its traditional fare. After much hard work, the team brought back what they had learned and created an all-new menu to share Honduran food with Taiwanese. The event will last until Aug. 31.
Honduran culture and cuisine are a blend of Indigenous Garifuna, Spanish, and Afro-Caribbean influences, according to the restaurant.
The menu spotlights eight dishes, including pupusa de cerdo y queso (stuffed flatbread with pork and cheese).
Honduras and El Salvador both claim to be the birthplace of the pupusa. The restaurant pointed out that “pupusa” originates from a Nahuatl term that refers to “something filled up.”
Over the past four years, the restaurant has held numerous “culinary months” promoting cuisines from Latin American and Caribbean nations.
