TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — NXP Executive Vice President and Chief Technology Officer Lars Reger underlined the company’s progress towards full automation on Wednesday (June 5) at Computex in Taipei.
Reger, who joined NXP in 2008, was invited to Computex this year as a keynote speaker. A total of 1,500 companies from 36 countries will take part in the expo, according to a Computex press release on Tuesday (June 4).
In his speech, Reger painted a world where humans have embraced “responsible robots” and AI. By 2050 driverless cars and smart homes will be the norm, the CTO claimed.
“We will see a global economic paradigm shift,” Reger said. “Our factories will be completely automated with observers. You will only need to intervene if something goes wrong.”
Reger explained the automation process is divided into three main parts:
- “Orange” era of laptops and desktops
- "Green” era of smartphones and data centers
- "Blue” era of smart devices and AI
“A robot is just a machine and a machine needs instructions,” Reger added. “That’s where software comes in.”
Regarding the framework for robots and devices, Reger said sensing, thinking, connecting, and acting will form the backbone of their core skills. Furthermore, Reger said he believed that humanity needs a “brain shift” or different point of view for AI to succeed.
“If you join me on this journey, together we can make this industry interesting,” he said.
Computex is running from June 4-7 at Taipei Nangang Exhibition Center (TaiNEX) Halls 1 and 2.
