TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Repairs to clear a highway after a landslide in Keelung have gone ahead of schedule, as the road will reopen on Monday afternoon (June 10).
On June 3, a large landslide occurred near the 70-km mark of Provincial Highway No. 2 on the hillside next to Pinglang Bridge at the entrance to Chaojing Park, causing a week-long traffic closure in both directions. Transportation Minister Li Men-yen (李孟諺) said the section of road, originally expected to open tomorrow, will be opened to traffic at 2 p.m. on Monday, per CNA.
Keelung Mayor Hsieh Kuo-liang (謝國樑) and Kuomintang (KMT) legislator Jonathan Lin (林沛祥) accompanied Li for an on-site inspection Monday morning. In a press briefing, Li said debris removal is proceeding smoothly, and the damaged road surface was re-paved on Sunday (June 9).

Li said because a 6-meter buffer zone has been maintained, the width of the road will be slightly reduced, and the speed limit will be lowered to 25 kilometers per hour. Motorists are advised to pay attention to the speed limit.
He said personnel will monitor and respond to any situation. Li expressed hope that this rapid reopening will help alleviate traffic congestion during the Dragon Boat Festival holiday.

Li said permanent stabilization projects for the slope will also be initiated subsequently.
