TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — A Taipei citizen accidentally discarded a pillow containing three red envelopes with cash into a garbage truck.
After realizing the mistake, the citizen contacted the sanitation team to stop the garbage truck, according to a Taipei City Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) press release on Sunday (June 9).
To avoid discarding valuables, DEP recommended placing items in metal boxes. When sanitation teams encounter metal boxes, they are transferred to a recycling vehicle and will not enter incinerators.
DEP said that after a citizen called, sanitation crews stopped the garbage truck from dumping its contents into a Muzha Incinerator waste pit. It was put on a platform for sanitation workers to sift through.
After a 30-minute search, the pillow containing the three red envelopes was found. The red envelopes contained banknotes worth NT$12,000 (US$370).
