TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — WeatherRisk Director Chia Hsin-hsing (賈新興) on Monday (June 10) said Taiwan's plum rain season has ended.
Chia said a plum rain front has gradually moved north, away from the northern coast of Taiwan. However, Chia predicted southwest winds will continue to bring occasional showers or thunderstorms in central and southern Taiwan this week, and other areas would see partly cloudy to sunny skies with localized short thunderstorms in the afternoons.
On Monday, Chia said the weak southwest winds have brought showers to central Taiwan and areas south. Except for relatively stable weather in the northern Taiwan areas of Taoyuan, Hsinchu, and Miaoli, Chia said other regions will experience localized showers in the afternoon.
From nighttime to early morning over the next few days, Taichung and areas south will likely have short, sporadic rains, predicted Chia. This weather pattern is expected to continue until Saturday (June 15), and residents of Taitung County should be aware of the possibility of foehn winds, dry, relatively warm, downslope wind that occurs in the downwind side of a mountain range.
