TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Hong Kong actor Anthony Wong (黃秋生) threw the opening pitch for the Uni-President 7-Eleven Lions on Monday (June 10), drawing praise from the team's manager.
When the Golden Horse Award-winning actor threw the ceremonial first pitch at Tainan Municipal Baseball Stadium, the team's manager Lin Yueh-ping (林岳平) served as the catcher. Known for his infamous slit throat gesture during his playing days, Lin said, "Anthony Wong naturally exudes a domineering aura, which is really cool and special," per Liberty Times.
The Lions held a themed event called "Genie Lion’s Trendy Tea Restaurant" during the Dragon Boat Festival holiday, attracting nearly 20,000 fans. Wong's opening pitch on the last day was the highlight, with Lions players and coaches lining up to take photos with him.
Lin also guided Wong through his pitching technique, and said, "It's such an honor to meet Anthony Wong in person." Besides pitching, Wong visited the stands near first and third base, tossing signed balls and interacting with fans.
Wong stayed to experience a professional baseball game, saying, “I love it so much, there's no reason, I just love it. I admire every player on the baseball field. Every pitch and every match-up holds so many possibilities. It's truly fascinating.” Wong added that he had dreamed of being a baseball player as a child, but there were few baseball games in Hong Kong, "so throwing the opening pitch today is like a dream come true."
