TAIPEI (Taiwan News) – Amazon plans to invest billions of U.S. dollars in cloud computing projects in Taiwan over the next 15 years, reports said Wednesday (June 12).
Amazon Web Services (AWS), the cloud-computing arm of the tech giant, said it would launch a Taiwan infrastructure region by early 2025. The project will ensure that customers who want to keep their content inside the country can do so, the company said in a statement.
AWS quoted Premier Cho Jung-tai (卓榮泰) as saying the investment would boost the growth of related supply chains, create job opportunities, and help sustainable development. He praised the company for providing innovative cloud services to local and international businesses.
The launch of the new infrastructure region next year will give corporations, entrepreneurs, NGOs, and the education sector more choice to serve end users from data centers located inside Taiwan, according to AWS. The company also emphasized its long-term commitment to Taiwan, with investment plans worth billions of U.S. dollars, though it did not provide detailed figures.
The country will be divided into three availability zones with cloud infrastructure in separate locations. Each zone will have its own physical security, independent power supply, and cooling, AWS said.
