TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Taiwan Representative to India Baushuan Ger (葛葆萱) visited the National Gallery of Modern Art in New Delhi on Saturday (June 15) to enjoy the oil painting exhibition spotlighting the life of 17th-century ruler of the Maratha Empire Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj.
Ger said now was the best time for enhanced Taiwan-India cultural exchanges, CNA reported. He pointed out the growing economic and educational cooperation between Taiwan and India and increased Taiwanese investment in India. There are also 35 Taiwan Education Centers in India promoting Mandarin language teaching and academic collaboration and exchanges, he added.
Cultural exchanges can begin by inviting Taiwanese artists to hold exhibitions in India and vice versa, he said.
The 115-painting exhibition titled “Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj: Celebration of the 350th Anniversary of the Great Coronation” opened on June 6 in partnership with the Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Arts, Indian Ministry of Culture, and Indian government, according to a Ministry of Culture press release. The paintings are by father-son artist duo Shrikant Chougule and Gautam Chougule. It will run until June 21.
In April, students from Yi Chang Junior High School in Hualien participated in a cultural exchange trip, visiting Ramjas International School in New Delhi. They participated in classes alongside Indian students and learned more about Indian history, cuisine, and religion. The Taipei Economic and Cultural Center in India Education Division organized the trip to encourage “cross-cultural collaboration” between Taiwanese and Indian students.
