TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Taiwanese American brothers Adam Hinton and Robert Hinton were in Taipei to train with the national team for the upcoming 43rd William Jones Cup from July 13–21.
The brothers took advantage of a break in training to attend the P. League+ (PLG+) finals on Sunday (June 17), pitting the New Taipei Kings versus the Taoyuan Pauian Pilots. Former NBA player Jeremy Lin (林書豪), who plays for the Kings, was ruled out due to injury, per CNA.
The Hinton brothers played for Taiwan in the William Jones Cup last summer. The older brother Adam is studying at Cornell University and plays for the school's team. As for the younger brother Robert, his future is even more promising, labeled an ESPN "four-star” high school recruit who signed with Harvard University earlier this year.
For the Hinton brothers, it was the first time they watched a Taiwan pro-league basketball finals. Speaking to the media afterward, Robert said the game was fast-paced, with centers and forwards for both teams exhibiting lots of versatility.
The Hinton brothers also admitted to being fans of Jeremy Lin since youth. Though they were disappointed Lin could not play because of a foot injury, the brothers said injuries are part of the game, but hope Lin can bounce back for game five.
Adam said he was a fan of Lin’s fighting spirit on the court and the excitement behind "Linsanity." He appreciated how Lin was always mentally ready on the court and seized every opportunity to score.
The Hinton brothers say they are looking forward to representing Taiwan once again in the Jones Cup. Their mother, Tsang Chen-cho (臧珍卓), said her sons enjoyed the experience and upon returning to the U.S. last year, encouraged teammates to seek out similar opportunities to participate in international competition and engage in cultural exchange.
