TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — The Central Weather Administration (CWA) on Tuesday (June 18) issued a heavy rain advisory for 12 counties and cities.
The CWA issued a heavy rain yellow alert in Keelung, Taipei, New Taipei, Taoyuan, Hsinchu, Hsinchu County, Miaoli County, Taichung, Changhua County, Nantou County, Yilan County, and Hualien County. Yellow alerts are issued when rainfall exceeds 80 mm over 24 hours or 40 mm in one hour.
The CWA said due to heat, thunderstorms are possible in Changhua County and areas north, Nantou County, Yilan County, and Hualien County. It warned the public to watch for lightning, wind gusts, and landslides in mountainous areas.
At 2:41 p.m., it released a Public Warning System (PWS) text advising New Taipei and Taoyuan residents of heavy rain and flash floods.
The CWA also issued a yellow heat alert for Tainan, Kaohsiung, Taitung, Changhua County, Nantou County, Yunlin County, and Pingtung County, indicating temperatures could reach 36 C.
