TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — President Lai Ching-te (賴清德) highlighted the democratic ties between Taiwan, Europe, and the U.S. in a meeting with a visiting Atlantic Council delegation on Tuesday (June 18).
Atlantic Council CEO Fred Kempe and former Latvian President Egils Levits recently arrived in the country, leading a group of experts and distinguished figures from the U.S., Czech Republic, and France.
Lai said their visit demonstrates the support of transatlantic democratic nations for Taiwan, per the Presidential Office. Democratic countries must cooperate to safeguard global peace and stability, he said. He pledged to promote value-based diplomacy and foster global democracy.
Lai pointed out that Taiwan and its partners face the challenges posed by authoritarianism and must cooperate to safeguard global peace and stability.
The president also said Taiwan, the U.S., and Europe are important economic and trade partners. He hoped to expand cooperation mechanisms and exchanges through various frameworks such as the U.S.-Taiwan Economic Prosperity Partnership Dialogue and the Taiwan-EU Trade and Investment Dialogue.
