TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Retail giant Costco said Tuesday (June 18) that it’s recruiting suppliers in Taiwan for its global supply chain for the first time.
Costco Taiwan Vice President Wang Yu-mei (王友玫) said the company has more than 4 million members in Taiwan, with one-third being Executive Members, per UDN. “As internationalization progresses, local Taiwanese products have significant market opportunities abroad, especially food items, which are popular in countries like the U.S. and Canada,” she added.
Wang mentioned during regular monthly meetings, Costco stores from various countries introduce unique products. Many popular Taiwanese products at Costco Taiwan have been noted and subsequently entered other countries’ markets, the vice president said.
“For example, A-Sha Dry Noodles are currently sold in Costco locations in the U.S., Canada, Mexico, and Australia,” Wang said. “Serena Egg Rolls, too, have entered the U.S. market.”
Regarding suitable partners, Wang explained the company always looks for suppliers that can guarantee quality and meet packaging requirements.
Additionally, Wang said she has not received any request from headquarters to raise membership fees, per CNA. “The annual fee for general members is still NT$1,350 (US$41) and NT$3,000 for Executive Members.”
Costco entered the Taiwan market in 1997.
