TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — A man was fatally struck on Thursday (June 20) as he rode a YouBike through an intersection after making a hospital emergency room visit in Taichung.
At 1:35 a.m., the 31-year-old surnamed Lin (林) was hit by a car in North District, reported ETtoday. Lin had just visited the emergency room at China Medical University Hospital due to stomach discomfort and had been accompanied by his mother.
After the consultation, Lin and his mother rode YouBikes home. However, as they reached the intersection of Chongde Road and Wenxin Road, Lin reportedly entered the intersection as the traffic light was changing from yellow to red.
At the same time, a 66-year-old female motorist surnamed Chang (張) made a right turn when her light changed from red to green, hitting and running over Lin. Lin suffered massive bleeding and went into cardiac arrest.

He was rushed to the hospital but was pronounced dead after resuscitation efforts failed. Lin's mother, who was riding behind him at the time, witnessed the collision.
Chang had a blood alcohol level of zero. After questioning, police transferred her to the Taichung District Prosecutor's Office to be investigated for negligent homicide (過失致死罪).
