TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Former Premier Chen Chien-jen (陳建仁) will visit New York City in July to raise awareness about Taiwan in U.S. political and academic circles.
Chen is set to attend a U.N. Go! event hosted by the U.S.-based charity STUF (Share, Trust, Unity, and Family) United Fund, CNA reported. The event is scheduled for July 10 in Times Square and explores the repercussions of the Russia-Ukraine war on other global regions, including the Taiwan Strait. It coincides with the U.N. High-level Political Forum on Sustainable Development.
In addition to a keynote speech by Chen, representatives from U.N. agencies and scholars will discuss topics pertinent to Taiwan's future.
U.N. Go! is an initiative aimed at nurturing future Taiwanese leaders. It provides students with opportunities to engage in and learn about international affairs through internships with U.N.-related NGOs.
STUF United Fund Deputy Executive Director Jack Chen (陳啟耕) at a press conference Saturday (June 22) said that by educating students early about global affairs, they are more likely to help Taiwan, the U.S., or other countries in the future, fostering international friendships and cooperation.
