TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — With the Paris Summer Olympics only a month away, the Taiwan Olympic Committee on Monday (June 25) unveiled athlete uniforms made in conjunction with Japanese athletic brand Yonex.
Six athletes appeared before the media, representing Taiwan’s best chances of earning Olympic gold, such as judoka Yang Yung-wei (楊勇緯), who is the reigning silver medalist in the men’s 60 kg category. Yang, 26, is experienced and has pledged to go all out for the upcoming Olympics, per CNA.
Taiwan Olympic Committee President Lin Hong-dow (林鴻道) said that it was the first time the committee had worked with Yonex on uniforms. Lin said the uniforms were made from recycled fibers and used native Taiwanese plants as decorative elements.
Other athletes appearing at the press conference included women's boxer Huang Hsiao-wen (黃筱雯), men's boxer Kan Chia-Wei (甘家葳), women's gymnast Ting Hua-tien (丁華恬), and taekwondo competitor Hsiao Hsiang-wen (蕭翔文), among others.
Yang regretted that he would not be able to join the Olympic opening ceremony in the team’s formal uniform as his first match is the following day, July 27. “It’s still fun to wear the uniform today, and the material feels very good,” said Yang.
Men's boxer Kan Chia-Wei, who is making his Olympics debut, said the uniform "feels very fresh.” He added that wearing the uniform will give him more confidence as he competes in the Olympics.
