TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — A meteorologist said Taiwan would see hot temperatures on Wednesday and Thursday (June 26-27), while the Central Weather Administration (CWA) has issued red, orange, and yellow heat advisories for 14 counties and cities.
On his Facebook page, meteorologist Lin Te-en (林得恩), head of National Taiwan University's Center for Weather and Climate Disaster Research said a strengthening Pacific high-pressure system would increase temperatures across Taiwan on Wednesday and Thursday.
Daytime temperatures in the east could reach 32 to 35 C. The west could see highs between 34 to 37 C.
In some areas near mountains or valleys, and the Greater Taipei Basin, temperatures could reach 37 to 38 C. Lin advised the people to minimize outdoor activities between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m.
Lin said people venturing out should apply sunscreen and stay hydrated to prevent heat-related illnesses.
The CWA issued a red heat alert for Pingtung County for a high of 38 C for a third consecutive day. It issued an orange heat advisory for Taipei, New Taipei, Hsinchu County, Changhua County, Nantou County, Yunlin County, Chiayi County, and Tainan.
The CWA predicted Kaohsiung would reach a 38 C high, while other orange alert areas would see 36 C highs for the third consecutive day.
The weather bureau issued a yellow heat advisory for Keelung, Taoyuan, Taichung, and Chiayi. It predicted that the maximum daily temperature in those areas would reach 36 C.
