TAIPEI (Taiwan News) – Somaliland Energy and Minerals Minister Abdullahi Farah Abdi held talks at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) during his visit to Taiwan, reports said Friday (June 28).
While Taiwan and Somaliland do not maintain official diplomatic relations, both governments opened representative offices in each other’s capital in 2020. They signed an energy and minerals agreement in 2022, with a new joint working group conducting its first meeting in Somaliland the following year.
Vice Foreign Minister Remus Chen (陳立國) hosted a banquet for the visiting minister and his delegation Thursday (June 27). The event was also attended by Lee Shun-chin (李順欽), the chair of state-run energy group CPC Corporation, Taiwan, according to a statement on the MOFA website.
Abdi was in Taiwan to join the second meeting of the joint energy taskforce, Chen said. The talks are intended to deepen cooperation on exploration projects for oil and strategic minerals, according to MOFA.
The energy minister was also scheduled to attend the graduation ceremony for technicians enrolled in a training course for energy exploration, and to visit businesses involved in clean energy and minerals processing.
