TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — President Lai Ching-te (賴清德) visited Chenggongling Camp to inspect the training of new recruits on Friday (June 28).
Accompanied by Minister of Defense Wellington Koo (顧立雄) and other high-ranking officials, Lai observed 302nd Infantry Brigade’s various training courses, including weapon handling, combat first aid, and close-quarter combat, per CNA.
Lai praised the recruits’ training, emphasizing the importance of their transition from civilians to soldiers. He said after the 8-week training, they would be assigned to units where they would acquire valuable military combat skills.
Sharing a meal with recruits and other military personnel, Lai said he was concerned about their ability to handle the intensity of the training and hot weather. The recruits responded confidently that they could manage.
Reflecting on his military training at Chenggongling, Lai noted that the current conditions are much improved, with better accommodations and facilities compared to the past.
Lai reminded recruits that their training and effort are all for national security, preserving Taiwan's progress, and contributing to global peace. He thanked the military's efforts to contribute to Taiwan's safety and defense of democracy and freedom.
The president said he hopes for continued progress and cooperation to ensure peace and stability in the region.
