TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — The U.S. News & World Report 2024-2025 World's Best Universities ranking was released on Tuesday (June 25), with 11 universities in Taiwan ranking among the top 1,000 universities.
Among the Taiwan universities appearing in the ranking, National Taiwan University took top honors (233), followed by China Medical University (285), National Tsinghua University (509), National Cheng Kung University (623), National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University (623), and Asia University (755).
Universities from 100 different countries were considered for the rankings, with 2,250 universities making the rankings based on 13 indicators that measure academic research performance and regional and global reputation.
Recently, two universities appearing in the rankings (China Medical University and Asia University) have been linked together in a domestic exchange program approved by the Ministry of Education. The arrangement allows both universities to support each other in areas related to teaching and research, per UDN.
China Medical University Chair Tsai Chang-hai (蔡長海) said he was proud that both universities were able to achieve international recognition for more than 10 years, ranking among the best universities in the world. Given the acknowledgment the two universities have received, continual improvement and performance will be emphasized to cultivate global talents across different academic areas.
Asia University President Jeffrey Tsai (蔡進發) said the academic institution has been established for 23 years and has appeared in four separate world-leading university rankings in the past 10 years, including U.S. News and World Report, The Times Higher Education U.K. (THE), Shanghai Ranking, and QS World University Rankings.
Tsai said that Asia University has performed well in three major fields: AI, green sustainability, and information engineering. Aside from allowing students to achieve high-quality academic performance, the university also emphasized cross-disciplinary studies and competitiveness in the workplace.
Asia University also closely follows international trends so that students can find employment after graduation. For this reason, it has also been ranked as a favorite university for corporations.
Hsu Ching-hsien (許慶賢), Asia University Computer Science and Information Engineering department chair, said that Asia University ranks 115th in the world in the field of AI, 71st in the world in green sustainability, and 219th in the world in the field of information engineering. Hsu added that 20 professors from Asia University have been selected as "Top 2% Scientists Worldwide" by Stanford University, of which 10 are in the field of information engineering.
