TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — The Central Weather Administration (CWA) Wednesday (July 3) issued heat advisories for 13 counties and cities as the apparent temperature in Taipei is predicted to hit 43 C on Wednesday and Thursday (July 4).
The CWA said Tainan, Kaohsiung, and Pingtung County could reach 38 C on Wednesday. It issued an orange heat advisory, reaching 36 C for three straight days, for Taipei, New Taipei, Taichung, Changhua County, Nantou County, Yunlin County, Chiayi, Chiayi County, Hualien County, and Taitung County.
The CWA predicts high temperatures will continue over the week. The apparent temperature in Taipei is forecast to reach 43 C on Wednesday and Thursday and 44 C on Friday (July 5) and Saturday (July 6).
The weather bureau said ultraviolet radiation would be strong around noon and urged the public to shield themselves from the sun when outside and to stay hydrated.
There will be occasional scattered showers in the southeast and the Hengchun Peninsula. In the afternoon, there will be localized thunderstorms in the west, central Taiwan, and south and mountainous regions, with the possibility of localized downpours.
The CWA said strong winds are likely in the open coastal areas of Kaohsiung and Pingtung and advised caution during coastal activities.
